Leadership and governance This course is directed at officers with lead responsibility for ensuring good governance and management of their union, it will also be applicable to finance officers.
Aim
Specifically designed for 2008 this course is born out of the pressing need for students’ unions to have strong governance and trusteeship to perform its campaigning and representative roles, with a specific reference to the requirements of the Charities Act 2006. Bringing together an exciting blend of external speakers from the student movement and the third sector, interactive workshops and thought provoking presentations, this course aims to signpost tools for development and inspire the continual enhancement of effective students’ union governance.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course officers will be able to
- Identify models of strong students’ union governance
- Be aware of the necessary compliance requirements, namely England and Wales Charities Act 2006 and its implications
- Effectively allocate resources within their students’ union
- Consider the strategic planning process and importance of KPIs
- Highlight the role of students officers and trustee board staff in effective governance
- Have action planned for the enhancement of governance within their students’ union.
