Active Political Leadership (APL)

Protest can take many forms

This course is directed at officers with lead responsibility for negotiations with the institution, lobbying external bodies, driving change and leading a political organisation.

Aims
To equip officers with the knowledge and skills to be an effective political leader. The course will explore you current Students’ Unions’ agenda, as well as considering and discussing your internal strengths and external relations and developments.

Course objectives
By the end of the course officers will be able to

  1. Review your mission and explore the complex role of a students’ union
  2. Undertake a health check in developing a strong students’ union
  3. Explore the difference between leadership and power and what it means to be an active political leader
  4. Deliver and practise practical leadership skills to enhance your position and strengthen your union
  5. Consider the challenges and opportunities in the upcoming year

The 2008 course is part of our summer training.
