Trustees Academy Audience
This course is directed at all trustees of a students’ union: full-time, part-time, internal and external.
Aims
This course aims to take students’ union trustees, whether they are sabbaticals, students or externals from knowing the bare essentials to being competent in the field of students’ union governance and trusteeship.
Objectives
By the end of the course delegates will be able to
Have a clear understanding of governance and trustee essentials
Identify the key legal, financial and strategic responsibilities within their students’ unions and know how to utilise the tools available to them in meeting these responsibilities
Be aware of the diverse relationships between trustees and staff as both in general and specific to a students’ union
Actively engage in the complex debate between the need for a democratic system within students’ unions and a fit for purpose governance structure
