Entrepreneurship defined
An entrepreneur is an individual who accepts financial risks and undertakes new financial ventures. The word derives from the French "entre" (to enter), and "prendre" (to take). Taking these literal translations, an entrepreneur can be any person who starts a new project or tries out a new opportunity.
The National Council for Entrepreneurship (NCE) defines entrepreneurship as: 'the process of uncovering and developing an opportunity to create value through innovation.' (NCE 2003)
This definition can refer to entrepreneurs across all sectors of society, including: Policy entrepreneur Social entrepreneur Eco-entrepreneur
An intrapreneur is an individual who acts like an entrepreneur but from within the confines of a large organisation or coorporation.

Enterprising Young Brits
The search for Britain’s enterprising young talent is now on! ?
Daily Mail Enterprising Young Brits is a national competition to find the next generation of entrepreneurs, recognising those who have made their ideas a reality. The best entry in each category will win £1,000 so if you have successfully mixed creativity with commercial flair, or demonstrated real entrepreneurial vision you could be in with a chance. The categories:
- Business Entrepreneur – For enterprising individuals who have started their own business, large or small.

Social and Community – For ventures combining the principles of a successful business with an emphasis on the social and environmental benefits it can provide.

Teen – For anybody aged 13-19 who is making an idea happen.
- Creative – For enterprising individuals, businesses and endeavours that have shown creative flair.

High Growth Business – For start-ups that can demonstrate rapid and sustained business growth.

Flying Start is a free national government funded programme for current students and graduates. Flying Start runs free half day workshops in your region designed to inspire and motivate people into taking action that will make their business dreams a reality.

SIFE - Students in Free Enterprise is an international organisation that aims to promote working together between students, businesses and the community. This website will also tell you about the SIFE UK National competition.
Prospects - Graduate Prospects is a leading UK provider of graduate careers information and services. Its Self-employment Community web pages, largely written by AGCAS members, provide students with reflective and practical information about setting up a business including links to information about related issues and sources of help.
The Prince’s Trust - A UK charity that helps young people overcome barriers and get their lives working. Through practical support including training, mentoring and financial assistance, they help 14-30 year olds realise their potential and transform their lives.
UKSEC - UKSEC is the national network for enterprise educators. They are an organisation of over 50 of the UK's most entrepreneurial Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Their purpose is to improve the entrepreneurial capability of graduates, academics and the business community by enhancing the quality of enterprise and entrepreneurship education provided by staff within UK HEIs..
Gstart - Gstart is a joint initiative between Yorkshire Forward (the regional development agency) and Yorkshire Universities (the association of higher education institutions in Yorkshire).
It aims to provide a simple but comprehensive information website and to promote the Enterprise Roadshows appearing across the region.
