'Would Like to Meet..' Progress Made
A big thank you to all those universities that have met with their MP and VC, your feed back is an indispensible part of the campaign. Let us know how you got on with your ‘would like to meet’ events last week. It’s not too late to get involved in the campaign and to inspire you we bring news of successful lobbying activity from Liverpool.
"Following a campaign I've run with the Liverpool Uni Guild and Liverpool Students' Union, Liverpool City Council has agreed to set up a scrutiny panel to look at the effect any changes to the current fees arrangements will have on the city's economic development.
Over half the constituents I represent in Liverpool City Centre are students living in halls of residence and have brought much-needed regeneration to many of the most deprived communities in the city.
It is vital that the City Council understands the implications of the funding review and is able to make a robust submission into the review.
I'm posting this to encourage students to lobby their councillors to do something similiar in other places. Students have an historic opportunity to shape the debate on funding in the run up to 2010."
Cllr Nick Small
Labour Councillor for Central Ward
Liverpool City Council
If other unions across the country could do this too we could contribute some compelling research to the debate in 2010. A copy of the motion that was passed in Liverpool to help you with your campaigning. Also please let us know how your meetings go by completing and returning a feed back form.
