Students’ Unions’ Experiences of Private Halls 2004This report aims to highlight the changes we are seeing in the field of student accommodation. It has been proven, time and time again, that there is a direct correlation between the environment people live in and the ability people have to achieve their full potential academically and otherwise.
In 2000, NUS did a piece of work on Private Finance Initiatives (PFIs) and Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) on campuses. It was a mapping exercise, to see how widespread the new phenomenon was. The results showed that there was a definite growth in colleges using the option of PPP/PFI as off balance sheet transactions, to refurbish, or indeed start building, halls of residence.
