Advancing Equality for Men and Women: government proposals to introduce a public sector duty to promote gender equality

NUS Women’s Campaign believes that the female students it represents are part of a society that discriminates against their gender and has a long history of doing so. The Women’s Campaign role is thus to actively oppose all manifestations of sexism in society. We campaign on behalf of female students on areas such as the gender pay gap, sex discrimination in employment and education, gender segregation in education and employment, and violence against women. We also offer support to women’s officers in local students’ unions by producing briefings, newsletters and campaign materials, and running networking events.

Our response to the Government’s proposals on the Gender Equality Duty reflects policy passed by our membership at our Annual Women’s Conference.
