NUS responds to Housing in Multiple Occupation licensing in February 2005.NUS has responded to the ODPM consultation on the implementation of Housing in Multiple Occupation (HMO) licensing of the Housing Act. The Housing Act will change the face of the private rented sector from 2006 onwards by introducing a tenancy deposit scheme, a new risk assessment system for Housing in Multiple Occupation and new compulsory licensing of Housing in Multiple Occupation.
In its response, NUS calls for tenants and landlords to be given clear written guidance on their rights and duties under HMO licensing and for the NUS, Unipol and ANUK Code of Standards for Larger Students Developments to be applied to a all educational establishments providing student housing.
This response follows the publication of the Housing Bill in May 2003
