NUS LGBT does LGBT History Month!

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans History Month has been celebrated across the UK since February 2005. Each year the event has become bigger and better, and with your help this year will be the best yet. Throughout the month of February, LGBT people will have the opportunity not only to proudly showcase our diverse and dynamic LGBT communities, but also to shed light on our once hidden history. There is another side to many of the well known stories in history which deserves to be heard. So often LGBT people in the past have been rendered invisible – literally written out of history. LGBT History Month is our opportunity to change that. Take a look below for our 5 step guide for how to take part. It's time to remember our past, celebrate our present and fight for our future! Have a fantastic LGBT History Month!

Here is your 5 step guide to making LGBT History Month the best yet!
1) Download our LGBT History Month Toolkit The NUS LGBT campaign has produced this pack in order to provide you with the tools and ideas you need to take part – now updated with even more information and materials to help you celebrate our history.
2) Plan your LGBT History Month events Using the toolkit, and your own imagination we're sure that you'll come up with loads of exciting events. If you'd like one of the LGBT Officers, or a member of LGBT Committee to attend any of them, please email lgbt@nus.org.uk
3) Advertise your Events on our Facebook group It's not only important to get great advertising within your own students' union - make sure you advertise your events in the "Posted Items" section on the Facebook group to encourage other local LGBT students to attend your events. You can also post publicity, or pictures of your events in the "Photos" section.
4) Request a workshop or speaker from NUS LGBT Committee for your LGBT History Month event. Please email lgbt@nus.org.uk to request a committee member with details of your event.
5) Keep an eye out for our other LGBT History Month projects...
