An Essential Free Event for All Students' Union, Guild, Association and Council Officers and Reps

THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL AND REGISTRATIONS HAVE CLOSED

One-day Student Leadership conference, "Championing the Learner Voice to influence change" 17 January 2007, at the Connaught Rooms, Covent Garden, London The recent government White Paper, Further Education: Raising Skills, Improving Life Chances, prioritised the need to collect, listen to and act upon the views of learners in the further education system to improve performance and drive up quality. Across the country, learners are actively playing leadership roles in their local colleges and providers. Every year, thousands of learners step up to take on roles such as student governor, apprentice representative or student union officer. This one-day conference is aimed at all those who currently play or seek to play a leadership role within their provider organisation. The objective of this conference is to bring together sector partners and leading learners to hear from key figures from across the sector and debate the issues of the day. The aim is for the learner to acquire the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to influence and make an effective and valuable contribution to the development policy in the FE system. This conference will act as a learning experience for delegates, who will be able to transfer their learning back to the representational setting. It will also allow sector leaders and government ministers to consult learners and to test proposed policy initiatives with them. Who should attend? This conference is open to all learners from the FE system - including those at sixth-form college, work-based learning providers and adult and community learning centres - who currently play or aspire to play a leadership role within their provider organisation, including:

  • student governors
  • student union officers
  • apprentice representatives
  • learner council and parliament members.
Please note that numbers will be limited so we recommend early booking. We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting event.
