Introduction from the National Secretary
On the 12th November 2008, our members overwhelmingly voted in favour of improved and far-reaching reform proposals at an Extraordinary Conference held to discuss the future of the National Union.
At that meeting, Wes Streeting, the National President, in his closing remarks to the event, highlighted that the next steps of the process were in the hands of NUS' members. Since then, students' unions up and down the UK have been discussing whether to make a call for a further extraordinary conference, or to take the proposals to NUS Annual Conference 2009.
We are now in receipt of the required number of calls and in accordance with the constitution are releasing details of the event. We will debate whether or not to "ratify" (approve) the new constitution and, if that passes, will be considering some of the new schedules to the constitution.
All of our members are invited to take part in Extraordinary Conference, which for registered delegates is free to attend. You will also be able to submit amendments to the schedules beforehand, which will then be debated on the day. Inside CD1 online you will find instructions on how to take part and what you need to do in the run up to the event in the coming weeks.
You can find this document and all the other information and papers for the Extraordinary Conference here
We look forward to seeing you there
Richard Budden
National Secretary
