Mental health continues to be one of the highest rated concerns for students in the UK. Across college and university campuses, students are continually seeking support for poor mental health and students' unions are not always equipped to help them.
Mental health is not ‘just a welfare issue’. From sports clubs, debt advice and academic representation, mental health spans across all of the work we do in the student movement. The sheer numbers of students with poor mental health demonstrates the need for student officers to be informed, trained and updated on the issues involved.
This course aims to give you an insight into the issues involved for students with mental ill health and introduce ways in which you can support these students.
Workshops run by experts in this field will be offered - from debt and mental health, self harm, LGBT & Black mental health, students and suicide and how to set up mental health policies and run campaigns in your institution. We will also be featuring a panel of students with personal experience of mental health issues to give you an insight into the difficulties faced.
