About the course

Financial management can be a daunting task for the non-specialist. This course looks at the ‘big picture’ and aims to provide practical tools to interpret the information available. It demystifies finance by explaining the jargon and guiding participants around financial systems. The course will be participatory with a balance of short inputs, discussion, group work, games and individual activities, using NUS examples.

Aims

By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key components of financial management

  • Interpret budget and accounting statements effectively

  • Ask questions about financial systems and their effectiveness

  • Recognize the financial implications of policy making

  • Use tools to improve organisational financial management
