We would like to encourage you to attend a one-day conference on:

Crime and Students - Getting the Message Out

New Ideas in Working Together and Changing Behaviour

Organised jointly by the Home Office, National Union of Students, Unipol Training and The Police Association of Higher Education Liaison Officers (PAHELO).

Two years ago the Home Office launched a major initiative on Crime and Students. This conference follows on from that programme and will look at recent developments, many of which are being discussed for the first time. Costs have been kept to a minimum (£80 including refreshments, lunch and a full set of course papers). The focus will be on addressing crime in the student community at a grass roots level. There will be interactive workshops with the opportunity to meet and ask your questions directly to Home Office and PAHELO staff.

The first conference takes place in central London on 15th February, and will be repeated in Manchester on March 7th.

The workshops will cover:

  • Hate Crime: Vulnerable Groups, Extremism and Reporting Incidents;
  • A Holistic Approach to Student Safety;
  • Sexual Assault - Sexual Assault Referral Centres; and Independent Sexual Violence Advisors and Drink Spiking;
  • The Best Mates Campaign;
  • Preventing Burglary: Secure Buildings with Streetwise Students;
  • Partnership Working: Neighbourhood Police Teams, Campus Watch and Crime Reduction Action Plans;
  • Dealing with Alcohol Related Behaviour;
  • Communicating with Students;
  • Policing within Institutions and The Developing Role of the Institution.
