Venezuela - Showing another world is possible Venezuelan student leader Abraham Aparacio is touring British universities giving a first-hand account of the amazing social transformation taking place in Venezuela. Since the election of President Chavez in 1998, Venezuela has seen remarkable social change. For the first time ever, millions of people now have access to a doctor following the introduction of free health care and illiteracy has been eradicated. A new constitution has extended democracy and guaranteed the rights of women, LGBT people and Venezuela's black and indigenous majority. All of this has been endorsed in 11 national elections since 1998. Yet the Bush Administration in Washington has responded to these measures with an international campaign to try to isolate Venezuela — showing it has no concern either for democracy or the welfare of the people of Venezuela. Come and hear a first hand account of the inspiring social change with Abraham Aparacio, National Director for Universities, the Bolivarian Federation of Students.
