Get involved in HEFCE’s Disability Equality Scheme
New laws from December 2006 will place a duty on public bodies to promote disability equality. This will affect all public bodies - from local councils to government departments, from universities to hospitals and all public bodies have to write a Disability Equality Scheme demonstrating how they will promote equality. This is a real opportunity to ensure effective representation for Disabled students.
Public Bodies that are covered by the Disability Equality Duty include the Learning Skills Council and HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England). On Wednesday May 10th 1-5pm HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) are coming to NUS to meet disabled students to discuss their disability equality duty and disabled access to Higher Education in England. We are looking for students from both FE and HE and post graduates who are disabled in English institutions. HEFCE will pay the travel expenses. If you are interested in attending please do get in touch with Sian Davies the NUS Disabled Students Officer by emailing sian.davies@nus.org.ul
