Our Halls Are Not For Sale!Campaign Against Halls Privatisations
A day of Action Friday 19th May
Sheffield University Students’ Union in conjunction with NUS
Again this year, many universities have made the move to privatise their halls of residence, leading to vast problems- rent hikes, late delivery, massive hidden costs and the exploitation of our members. So may unions are facing these issues, its about time we joined forces to fight against private providers! Therefore, in association with Sheffiled University Students Union, the welfare campaign is pleased to be holding a mass meeting on this issue.
With the privatisation of the University halls at Sheffield, as well as the University entering into deals with numerous private developers, this issue has been massive for the students union at Sheffield this year. We know that union officers all across the country have expressed similar concerns about private halls and have stories to tell about problems which students face as a consequence of privatization.
The day of action planned for May 19th will be a great opportunity to all come together and talk around the concerns that we have and experience as well as seeing what action we can take as a collective to limit that the impact of privatisation has on our students.
Seeing as some of us are coming to the end of our term in office we thought it would be a great opportunity to bring successors along but also feel free to invite other members of your officer team who are interested in the issue. Just RSVP to Rachel Evans, Welfare Officer, Sheffield Univesity Students Union rachel.evans@sheffield.ac.uk by Monday 15th May with the number of people who will be attending from your union.
