Introduction to the NUS SWD Campaign
The Students With Disabilities (SWD) Campaign within NUS is a self-organising, autonomous Liberation Campaign for students within NUS who self define with a disability. It has its own full-time elected SWD Officer, SWD Committee, SWD Steering Committee and SWD Conference.
The autonomous Conference is only open to self-defining SWD students and the motions passed at our Conference become the policy of the SWD Campaign and form the basis of the work we do on behalf of all members of the SWD campaign. As a campaign we believe that Students with Disabilities face attitudinal and social barriers to full inclusion on a daily basis and the struggle for equality is a continuous one. Lack of access denies disabled people opportunities in education, employment, leisure, housing and even voting in local and general elections - activities most people take for granted.
