I wrote the policy for blogs to make the NEC accountable so I have decided that for the time being I’m not going to write rambling blogs. I’m just going to write what I’ve done. The less I write the more people will see what I’ve actually produced (or not produced!) therefore, in theory, making me accountable. If I strip away what I think is the spin and waffle you can judge me on my actions rather than my ability to B******t.
1. Constitution and ratification’s.
I spent several hours combing through conference resolutions, minutes, ratification’s and the constitution after spotting that blogs weren’t in the constitution when they should be. It appears that several things that should have been done regarding ratification’s and the constitution were missed over the course of the two emergency reform conferences and the last National Conference. I picked out all the points and I am due to meet with the National Secretary, Steering and Rules Revision to sort this out.
2. Writing a plan for E&E
I wrote a plan for the E&E campaign with Flick Cox. We will blog it soon.
3. Writing and organizing content for the E&E newsletter.
Again I am working on this with Flick.
4. Getting E&E contact list together.
I have e-mailed all the SU’s in the directory to get contact details for all relevant people & societies so we can get a contact list together.
5. Organizing Interact.
Interact is a communication and campaigning group of lots of E&E type organizations. I have been working on sorting out a contact list. Amnesty are giving me lots of help with this so thanks to them.
6.Exeter University.
I visited Exeter University to introduce myself on my way to London and found that we had very similar thinking on lots of things. I’m going to work with them on communication amongst other things.
7.Exmouth Campus Closures
I’ve sorted a trip to Exmouth and I’m helping them with their campaign against having their campus closed by Plymouth University. I’ve written an emergency motion for the NEC in support of their cause.
8. Active Media.
I went to active media in Leicester for a few days which was very interesting. As a result I am writing a briefing on comms which I have some strong opinions on. I will discuss it with a few officers and circulate it to NEC before distribution. It’s basically going too be a guide to producing a comms strategy and the philosophy behind it.
9. Prioritizing the democratic process.
I’m still working on this essay. Basically I’m trying to identify a more effective process for turning conference policy into NUS campaigns. I’m starting to try and look at how other organizations do it to see if there’s any good practice I can steal.
10. Organizing Environment Conference.
Doing this with Flick.
11. International Students.
I’ve been having discussions about some potential discrimination towards International Students. Have had a chat with the policy people in NUS and I am trying to organize a meeting with Benson and Julian to discuss this.
The Blogs on this site represent the individual views of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the policies or practices of the National Union of Students.
