The welfare campaign wants to hear the positive things that students and their unions have been doing in the community. We’re sick of all this student-bashing, we know so many of you are really engaging with your communities, and we think its about time this got recognized. We want to hear about the initiatives you run, the ways that students contribute to your local community so we can share best practice and also have a really strong portfolio built up the next time we’re faced with student bashing people calling students a scourge on society, and referring to “students who do absolutely nothing to quell their loud noise, loud music, disruption of their lives” (step forward Charles Clarke, former NUS president) to fight back.
Therefore we are urging students unions to complete this survey and submit it
Over the last few months, with what’s been happening in Loughborugh, Charles Clarke making cheap shots about the students in his constituency and the publication of the UUK report on studentification mean that students in the community is an increasingly large issue. We will keep defending students to the hilt, whilst rolling out some national work on students in communities.
