The real Battle for Britain
Britain is about to go the polls, in one of the most significant elections ever fought. We have been fighting for months, but the next five days are crucial. We need to get out and speak to any and everyone we know. We need to do all we can to keep fascists from representing us in Europe.

The energy and enthusiasm with which NUS members have joined in our quest to Stop the BNP has been breathtaking. Students with exams and essay deadlines have still organised and mobilised to deliver tens of thousands of leaflets to voters on their campuses and in their communities. With a 1,000 students signing up the Hope Not Hate campaign online in an hour, and 5,000 by the end of Annual Conference our activities have gone from strength to strength.
But the battle has not been won, and as the expenses scandal has engulfed and overshadowed the issues, the task has become even more challenging. The public is rightfully angry, and many are likely to punish the main parties by drifting to the fringes or to the extremes.
It is crucial we act now.
To sit back and despond will only seek to serve the BNP. The public must be aware of the true nature of the BNP. Each day more material comes to light. This week more BNP candidates have been exposed for writing racist remarks on facebook and online forums. All this solidifies our arguments. The BNP are a racist and fascist organisation. But it is no good us simply reminding ourselves of this, we need to spread the messages far and wide.
That is why this week I and hundreds of other students will be campaigning up and down the country. Even if you can only spare an hour, even if you can only leaflet your street, your involvement could make the difference between Britain being represented by a fascist in Europe.
