NUS Annual Conference 2007, Blackpool, UK Hust for Rules Revisions Committee, Elected member (90secs) [spoken] Steven Findlay, NEC, and President of Heriot-Watt – that’s in Edinburgh, With reform on the cards for our national union, Conference, [to the tune of: Ice Ice Baby, by the one and only Vanilla Ice] We need to stop, collaborate and listen I’m standing here with a brand new vision The rule book’s got a hold of me tightly I read our constitution daily and nightly Will we get reform? Yo, I don’t know [into: U Can’t Touch This, by the legend that is MC Hammer] Stop! – Election time My, my, my, our governance hits me so hard It makes me say “Oh my Lord” What are we doing here? A bureaucratic circus once a year Conference called for change today This committee’s members have a part to play Cause we know, as such This should be a union, they can’t touch [pause] So wave your cards in the air, I’ll bust out motions make our structures fair This is it for a winner Vote for Fin and the rule book get thinner So move, slide for change With me on committee there’ll be no dange Cause you know, as such, I’m the only candidate you can’t touch [pause] [spoken] Conference, vote Steven Findlay number 1 – cause I want to keep rapping, and NUS needs to keep reforming. [in the style of: Gettin’ Jiggy With It, by Will Smith] Conference, I know you know I’ll go wacko If you vote for me, then you will see I keep serving you outwith the NEC [back to: U Can’t Touch This, by MC Hammer] But stop! – I’m out of time
