Frankly, this month has been the busiest so far, from regionals to National Council to flying visits to Poland I am exhausted. But there’s no rest for the wicked as my four day a week job is always next on the agenda.
Regionals
Not as wild as some of the stories I’ve heard in the past. Think we were quite well behaved actually, much fun was had, lots of driving was done and many question asked and (hopefully) answered. It’s often debated what the role of the Block of Twelve member is. My opinion has always been clear. It must be the role of those members to support the work of the full timers, to create and initiate their own campaigns and to be the grass roots listeners. So it was great to get out there and meet so many officers across the “west-side” this month. I hope you all enjoyed the conferences as much as I did. I would give you the gossip, but I don’t think many of the secret shenanigans we uncovered about the past lives of our NEC members would do their reputations much good. All I have to say is ‘No mayo for me thanks chippy’.
Plymouth Campus Closure
Firstly, my apologies to Wales. Sorry for not turning up but in my opinion their was a much bigger fight to be won just South of you. Exmouth Town is not only one of the most beautiful, it has some of the most amazing people. The campaign run by Katie Shaw was indescribable. I cant vocalize even, how passionate, enthused and motivating her fight was. It was a model campaign and one that I hope is noticed by all Student Officer’s facing closures. If you need advice- go to Katie Shaw.
Desperate, angry and p*ssed off is how I felt when the cowards came to Rolle, ruthlessly said ‘nice try but f*ck off we’re moving you anyway’ and didn’t show a tad of remorse. But you have to ask yourself ‘what ya gonna do?’ The campaign was hot, the support from in and out the Union was tremendous and the press were siding with Katie. Sometimes the reality is, that no matter what happens some people want to make change for change sake. They want to make their mark, whether that be necessary or right it doesn’t matter. They’ve been put there to do a job and that stubborn w*nker did it. Sorry to be so blue (as me Nan would say) but it’s a crying shame and I hope, I really hope has NOT set a precedent for the coming years. Well done Katie, well done Rolle you did us proud.
