It's been a while...
25/09/2005

Don’t worry, I’m back. I’m sure you’ve missed me as much as I have of you. How’s things? Here at NUS it’s just one jolly meeting after another. The laughter never stops…no really it doesn’t. Maybe it’s my bizarre sense of humour. So what’s been happening with me? I’m not quite sure to tell you the truth. What I can tell you is; the weeks are flying by, days are merging into one, I’m never really quite sure what the date is and I have no idea what’s in my fridge. What can I deduce from this? It must mean I’ve been busy! But with what?? Well stick around a bit longer and you just might find out…

Although I agree whole heatedly with the concept of this blogging malarkey, I do often find it frustrating that I'm often blogging about things that, well frankly aren't very interesting. Although I'm sure you all check the blogs daily (with great anticipation) how many of you actually read them? So as a test I would like every single one of you who reads this to email me directly at stephen.brown@nus.org.uk (apparently Wes has already tried this, but I want to see whether I get more replies than him!) I will take an official reading this time next week and let you know it my next blog. To stress again, I'm not criticising the blogging idea, I'm just interested to know how many officer's actually read them.

Anyway, I'm sure you are all just itching to find out what I've been up to. Here is my diary over the past few weeks;

  • Priority Campaign planning meeting X3
  • LGBT Committee meeting in Manchester X2
  • QAA Day 'Quality takes time at UUK
  • SEANUS Executive meeting
  • NUS Mental Health Day
  • Campaigns Launch
  • Visit to meet Royal Holloway Executive
  • Exmouth Campus Closure Demo!
  • Freshers Fayres

In the middle of attending these events and meetings, Julian, Pav and I have sent out a letter regarding this years Anonymous Marking Campaign. As person with responsibility for this on the Education team, I hope to utilise and build some of the good work achieved last year by the Black Students Campaign. We are hoping for a dynamic and powerful campaign that is relevant and effective to all Unions. We know that Universities are all very different and therefore react and respond to campaigning in individual ways. We want a campaign that's relevant, successful and flexible. Please let us know whether you have Anonymous marking at you Institutions already and if so, tell us how you won on it. Sharing best practice is always something NUS harps on about but rarely uses itself. So fill out the Anonymous marking survey, go to:

Anonymous Marking

If you have any question drop us a email at stephen.brown@nus.org.uk Other projects I’m working on over the next few weeks are Votes@16 and encouraging Students’ Union’s to promote Trade Union membership to their students (see next blog). I hope that you’ve all enjoyed a great summer and that you’re prepared and raring to crack on with Freshers!

As always if you need anything just drop us an email or give us a ring,

Stephen x
