Stephen's first involvement in NUS was through the LGBT campaign of which he spent two years on the national committee. Before being elected to the NEC he was Vice-President for Student Development at Wolverhampton University Students' Union, a West Midlands National Council Rep and a participant of the "Year of Change" group. In 2005 he was elected onto the NEC as a block of Twelve member with responsibility for Education, Anti Racism/Facism, Student Union Development and Affiliation. A year later he was elected to serve as NUS National Secretary for 2006/2007. During this academic year Stephen has been lead students' union governance advice, increased media and training, lead the affiliation fights and worked hard to ensure an ethical water is available through NUS Services. Stephen is a Director and Board member of NUS Services and chair of the marketing board at Ensleigh Insurance. In March of this year Stephen was re-elected to serve a second term as National Secretary for 2007/2008.
