What I have been doing
Oh my goodness I can’t believe that it is the third week of January already- God grief where has the time gone? It only seems 2 days ago that I was off on my holidays for Christmas and now it’s the third week of January. So it begs the question what have I been up to?
Well to be honest the first week of January was spent in France skiing. It was a fab holiday expect for the moment when I ended up getting stretchered off the mountain. A word of warning if you haven’t fallen over skiing for 4 years when you do go you do go- blades over your head, puff a big load of snow and you sat in a heap with a very painful ankle swearing at the top off your voice there is no f***ing way you are getting stretchered off the f***ing mountain. Off course you end up getting that- much to the amusement of the people you are on holiday with and most of the NEC at the first NEC meeting. I think people are sympathetic with my limping until they heard how I did it- ah well.
But anyway back to what I have been doing, other than hurting myself badly. There are lots happening at the moment. With the NUS SWD campaign there is the mental health rally (go to my other blogs to find out more and why it is important that we campaign on this issue.) The NUS SWD Campaign is supporting the mental health alliance rally (www.mentalhealthallinace.org.uk) on January 31st and Mind’s Candlelight Vigil on February 2nd(www.mind.org.uk).
Also the disability discrimination bill is making its way through parliament and the NUS SWD Campaign is proud to launch the Love Is…Campaign. Got to my Love Is blog to find out more and get hold of your Love is postcards.
But that is not all that is happening in the NUS SWD Campaign, we have conference coming up, the close of NUS SWD amendments for conference and the hidden disabilities day. I have been arranging the hidden disabilities day and also workshops at nus swd conference. If anyone has any suggestions about what they would like to see at the conference please do get in touch. It is all go go go so do get in touch to find out what is happening.
On the Fe priority campaign front there has been so much going on. Kat & I had a meeting with Times Higher and the FE focus part and it went really well. We will be sending out a letter letting you know what actually has been happening and what else is going on- including the launch of Tomlinson on January 31st. We’ve also got the FE rag day coming up to go alongside with Comic Relief so get raising money.
The Wednesday afternoon free stuff is done as well as the briefing so get your hands of some of that. Gemma and I are arranging to meet with people like the AoC and UniversitiesUk to find out how we can campaign around this issue. We need to make sure Wednesday afternoons are free for students to participate in student activities.
So it’s been a busy couple of weeks and it’s going to get busy- but do get involved- there is so much happen. If you have nay questions get in touch.
Cheers Xxx
