Thinking of disaffiliating from the NUS?
09/04/2008

So who had fun at conference?!

I know many of you will be disappointed that the governance reforms failed to pass. I also know that a number of you have given up on NUS altogether and are pushing for a disaffiliation referendum on your campus.

I hope that those of you who have met me know that I don't pull any punches when it comes to NUS. I think large parts of what NUS does is irrelevant to students and unachievable in the real world. That’s why I'm always happy to go to disaffiliation referendum's and give my presentation on ‘Why NUS is sh*t’ by an NEC member’.

So if you're thinking of disaffiliating - please get in touch with me.

I wouldn't have gone for re-election to the National Executive unless I believed the NUS was still worth being part of (btw - thank you to everyone who re-elected me based on my record and gave me such a strong mandate).

At the same time, I hope most of you know I would never give you a rant about "solidarity" or call you a "scab" like other NUS leaders tend to do.

I want to meet with anyone who is thinking of giving up on the NUS. I want an honest conversation about what is the best way forward for NUS and for the students on your campus.

So if your experience of Conference and its failure to reform has left you considering disaffiliation, please get in touch.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Sam
