The start of NUS Conference 2008 will see a decision taken on whether to adopt the proposed new NUS constitution promoted by the NUS leadership.
It is clear that the NUS leadership is seeking to limit debate on this issue at conference itself. At NUS compositing on Sunday a presidential ruling was used to prevent motions opposed to the new constitution being discussed alongside the proposal itself. No speeches were allocated against the proposed constitution allowing the supporters of the changes to determine who and how many delegates are allowed to speak. The NUS leadership have also expended a large amount of time and resources misleading students as to the nature of their proposals.
To counteract this The NUS Black Students Campaign is organising a briefing to ensure that delegates are fully informed prior to the start of conference. The briefing will take place in Bar Red a venue a couple of doors up from the main entrance to the winter Gardens. It will be from 12-1pm and tea, coffee and sandwiches will be provided.
A range of student representatives opposed to the proposals have been invited to speak. I hope that you will all be able to attend and will encourage others to do so.
