Blair's simplistic view of Black Britain

NUS criticises Blair’s ‘simplistic’ view of Black Britain

Dear Student,

The NUS Black Student Campaign is working with Unite Against Fascism to urge all students to register to vote before the 18th of April to help ensure the fascist BNP are not elected in the forthcoming local council, Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly elections. Please visit the UAF website for more information on activities and Love Music Hate Racism gigs organised in your local area.

Please circulate this email widely to all contacts.

Yours in unity,

Ruqayyah Collector
NUS Black Students Officer
NUS Anti Racism Anti Fascism co-convenor

Last few days to register to vote to STOP the BNP!

Voter registration deadline - Wed 18th April

Don't waste your democratic right to vote!

The fascist British National Party (BNP) is standing a record number of candidates in local council, Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly elections on 3 May . The BNP's vote has increased by more than 75 fold in just six years - from just over 3,000 votes in 2000 to over 238,000 in 2006. In the May elections the BNP hopes to win many more local council seats and break into Scottish and Welsh politics.

The BNP can be stopped

The vast majority of people oppose the BNP's politics of race hate, violence and division. The fascists rely on a low voter turnout to win elections. Make sure you are registered to vote to help stop the fascists getting a foothold in your area.

Registering to vote - easy but urgent!

Visit the Electoral Commission website www.aboutmyvote.co.uk to download a registration form. Fill in your details, sign it and use the links on the website to find the address of your local electoral registration office to post it to. The deadline is Wednesday 18 April. Please send your form by Monday 16th April.

The BNP - a dangerous, fascist organisation

Behind the facade of suited respectability, the BNP is a fascist organisation in the tradition of Hitler's Nazis. It was created from a split in the openly fascist National Front and is funded from neo-Nazi donations, festivals and music sales. Its aim is an all-white Britain, which could only be created using mass violence and an end to democratic freedoms. Many of its members have convictions for violence and racial hatred. Nick Griffin, the BNP leader has been convicted of incitement to racial hatred after he denied the reality of the Nazi Holocaust that resulted in the murder of 15 million people including Jews, trade unionists, Roma, black, lesbian, gay and disabled people.

Get the student vote out on 3 May!

You can help by reminding students on 3 May to go out to vote. Students are planning high profile stalls in busy foyers, banners on student union buildings, leafleting of libraries and stickering students on campus to encourage higher turnout at the elections.

Unite Against Fascism is organising local leafleting campaigns and awareness raising gigs across Britain ahead of May's elections. To find out how you can make a difference please visit www.uaf.org.uk or ring 0207 833 4916.
