Students rise against racism
02/10/2006

November will see students take part in the third annual student Rise initiative aimed at bringing the message of the Rise anti-racist festival - the biggest event of its kind in Europe - into colleges and universities.

This year the rise festival, which took place in Finsbury Park on July 8th was more successful than ever, attracting over 100,000 people reflecting the full diversity of London's communities.

Student Rise is organised by the Student Assembly Against Racism, the NUS Black Students Campaign and the Mayor of London and seeks to promote the messages of anti-racism and celebrating multiculturalism. Since its launch the NUS Black Students campaign and SAAR have taken the message of Rise nationwide, involving students' unions across the country in a wide range of initiatives and activities.

Last year student Rise events included gigs, discussions, international food fairs, film showings, stalls, and a Diwali festival at the Royal Albert Hall.

If your students' union is not already involved email ruqs@nus.org.uk for more information about student rise or for help with ideas or organising your own events.
