Dear Sports and Activities/Anti-Racism Officer,
RE: Kick Racism Out of Football Week – October 13th-25th
We write with information about the 2005 Kick Racism Out of Football week of action to take place this Autumn.
The week is a central part of our symbolic work to tackle racism, celebrate diversity and address exclusion.
During the same period last year more than 600 events took place across the country, including anti-racism matches at every professional club, and activities involving colleges, universities, and football supporters and community groups.
The period coincides with Black History Month and the start of the Muslim month of Ramadan, both of which present specific opportunities to explore links between the game and Black and ethnic minority communities.
To support initiatives on the ground we are making available 30 Community Chest Grants of up to £1,000 in cash to groups wishing to run projects during the week. The grants are available to all organisations working directly to benefit or engage a range of marginalised communities.
Please note the closing date for applications is 31st August 2005.
If you, or your student societies, want to put on smaller scale activities, Kick It
Out can support you with resources like T- shirts, badges, publications, a wristband, and patches for football shirts.
If you have any general queries, or want help in submitting an application do not hesitate to contact the Kick It Out office on 020 7684 4884 or Pav Akhtar on 07725 463 816.
