May 20 – Co-ordinated NUS Black Students’ Committee meeting, Coventry
May 20-22 – Co-ordinated whole of NUS Black Students’ Summer Conference, Coventry
May 23 – Spoke at Oxford Diversity Forum, Green College, Oxford, on Black people and racism
May 24 – Casework meeting with student from the London region
May 25 – Met Stuart Keith, of Independent newspaper’s Opportunity Magazine, promoted NUS
May 25 – Met Andrew Dawson, People and Planet campaign group to discuss involving members
May 25 – Met with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations about diversity involvement
May 26 – Casework meeting with student from the North-East region
May 27 – Met Stephanie, deputy editor of Opportunity magazine at the Independent newspaper
May 28 – Joined the lobby of the Indian High Commission to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Amritsar massacre of Sikhs in India
May 28 – Attended the Amritsar Temple rally at Trafalgar Square called by British Sikh Students
May 31 – Met with the Black World Cinema team at the National Film Theatre: joint projects
May 31 – Met Kate Morley, deputy editor, World Cancer Research Fund, about a freshers’ piece
May 31 – Casework meeting with student from the South-West region
June 1 – Attended NUS National Council, at ULU; sorted out content for the NUS mailing
June 2 – Met Denis Fernando and Peter Leary, co-ordinators of NAAR and SAAR, about anti-racism campaigning over the summer
June 3 – Met with Black students at Redbridge College about union campaigns
June 4-5 – Attended NUS LGBT Conference, Edinburgh
June 6 – Casework meeting with student from North-East region
June 7 – Meeting with the DTI about employment rights for Black people at industrial tribunals
June 8 – Casework meeting with student from North-East region
June 8-22 – Compassionate leave from NUS following the death of my brother
June 23 – Canvassed against the BNP in the Goresbrook by-election, helped defeat the BNP
June 24 – Carried out administrative tasks following absence: committee expenses
June 27–28 – Attended NUS NEC induction training near Blackpool
June 29 – Attended session on Islam at the East London Mosque educational centre
June 29 – Attended the UUK-ECU Extremism Working Party meeting at Woburn House
June 30 – Worked on the NUS Black Students’ Handbook 2005
June 30 – Chaired meeting in Lambeth on engaging Black communities in politics
