The Women’s Campaign will be holding ‘Feminist Histories, Feminist Futures’ events across the country over the coming year. These events will be a chance to hear from inspirational women who have fought for women’s rights in a range of different contexts, and a chance to share your experiences with other women activists in your area.
Recently, we’ve seen a huge groundswell in feminist activism across the UK and abroad, which is really exciting. Feminism is taking on new forms and is now accessible to more women than ever before. However, we are also seeing old tensions and divisions surfacing again and, from some quarters, we are also seeing a level of hostility towards young feminists.
The aim of the ‘Feminist Histories, Feminist Futures’ events is for feminists to be able to gather together to take stock: to think about where we’ve come from, what we can learn from our histories, and about how our past continues to shape our future.
The first 'Feminist Histories, Feminist Futures' event was held in Oxford in July and it was brilliant fun. Sonia Pressman Fuentes, who was one of the founders of the National Organisation for Women in America, joined us – and spoke about her fascinating life in the feminist movement.
I have attached the text of her fascinating talk here (content is copyright by Sonia Pressman Fuentes) – and take a look at these pictures from the event!
