My final blog. Not something I’m going to miss massively if I am honest but I am personally glad they were brought in as they add an extra layer of accountability and allow everyone to see exactly what it is you are up to or not whichever is the case?
I’m not going to say thank you’s or goodbyes to individuals as everyone already knows who they are but merely finish off the last months blog so I can say I have accounted for everyday this year on my blog.
So the 6th of June onwards…. I cannot say I was terribly busy this month. I wanted to be but there simply isn’t as much to do as those around you generate a lot of your work and if they are not around then the rest is obvious.
However this week was busy by June’s standards. I was at NUS Services Handover for the week kicking off with the NUS Extra terms of agreement meeting which went really well. Now I hope the project goes well to as the only thing that needs sorting is the split between NUS and NUS Services but there was a good understanding of what is expected so I’m confident it will be fine. Handover went through to Wednesday upon which I slept in slightly and travelled back to London – didn’t work too much if at all that ay so feel guilty putting it down as work! On Thursday I was back into the office as I was on Friday. On Friday afternoon myself Kat and a staff member went to see the Association of Colleges to tell them about NUS Extra and look for any potential synergies for the hopeful years ahead.
Monday was another day in the office before I shot up to Telford for the NUS Services Union Show. It was the first time we did it in this format but I hope it was a success. If it wasn’t please let NUS Services know so we can elaborate on it for next year. The worst thing about it was that I seemed to get an ulcer on my epiglottis which was most uncomfortable! As a result of feeling constantly sick I passed up the Key Partners Event but I also felt Joe should do it without me there to get to meet new people and not cause any confusion for others there by having two company chairs! After travelling home with all my goodies I went home early. On Friday I was in the office once again.
The following week I had Monday in the office as Tuesday I travelled to Cheltenham for the Endsleigh Board meeting and an informal meeting with the two senior directors mainly to introduce Joe and our new National Director to the organisation. The day was finished off with a beautiful meal (as always) and I had a whirlpool jacuzzi bath type thing which I took full advantage of! I will miss the Endsleigh guys as they are really down to earth, really good at what they do and very focussed on students as well as being top lads to boot.
I arrived back in London on Wednesday and took the opportunity to go to the London Grad fair in Islington as I still haven’t found myself a job!!!! Thursday was another office day before the incoming and outgoing management teams had our away day (further down Holloway Road!) which was very interesting and useful for all. This was followed by a Finance Committee called relatively late to discuss a few outstanding things which was forced to finish for 8pm as we were being kicked out of the building.
Today I have been in the office and I am rueing volunteering to clear out one of our offices here as it was a right state but it needed to be done and the rest is being done tomorrow. Fortunately tomorrow I am off to watch Australia versus England at Edgbaston so I have my fingers crossed for victory and a good day!
Wednesday I will be back I the office to file everything away and make sure everything is ready for Joe. If t isn’t I will tie up all my loose ends on Thursday which is to be my last day I the student movement! I am sad to leave but also definitely ready to go to.
I hope I keep in touch with many of you and that the student movement goes from strength to strength.
Take it easy
Martin
