URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Anti-Choice Bill hitting the House of Commons on June 5th.
29/05/2007

Please take 2 minutes to write to/email your MP about the impending Anti-Choice Bill.

This Bill comes as part of a concerted effort to chip away at abortion rights – because they know they can’t win an outright ban. We need to stop them at every step of the way.

This Bill is also the 3rd Anti-Choice Bill from Conservative MPs this year.

Please find below the information about the Bill, links to find out more, and a model letter you can send to your MP NOW!

Thank you for your support.

Info

On 05 June, Ann Winterton will table a Ten Minute Rule Bill to impose mandatory counselling on women seeking an abortion (see text below). This is a condescending, cynical attempt to chip away at women's abortion rights that will lead to further delays in service provision.

This is the third anti-choice Bill in less than a year. The other two were successfully defeated thanks to our combined and sustained lobbying efforts.

Dear

Please vote against Ann Winterton’s Bill to obstruct a woman’s right to choose

Tuesday 5th June, from 3.30pm

Conservative MP Ann Winterton, Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Pro-Life Group, has tabled a Ten Minute Rule Bill (see text below) to obstruct women’s access to safe, legal abortion.

The Bill, modelled on hard-line anti-abortion regulations in some US states, would introduce a cruel mandatory seven day delay in abortion service provision and force a woman to receive counselling regardless of her wishes and needs. The Bill is intended to create time to persuade a woman to change her own decision to end her pregnancy.

Ann Winterton’s Bill is part of a concerted campaign in parliament and through sections of the media to misrepresent abortion issues with the aim of winning successive restrictions in women’s rights on the road to total criminalisation of abortion. This is the third such anti-choice Ten Minute Rule Bill since 31 October 2006.

Nadine Dorries’ Bill to reduce the abortion time limit and introduce delays was defeated as was Angela Watkinson’s Bill to end young women’s access to confidential services.

Safe, legal abortion is a crucial right for women which has saved countless lives and transformed women’s social economic and educational prospects. Please show your commitment to defending women’s hard fought for rights by voting against this damaging Bill.

Yours,
