A Blogg. It even sounds ugly! I am determined this year to do my bloggs on a regular basis. Although I have been determined to learn to play the guitar and visit Amsterdam for many years and as yet they still have not happened. If you happen to have a free trip to Amsterdam do please let me know though!
I’m gonna start this blogg from June 28th I had missed the first day of the NEC inductions due to my youth project clashing with the dates. Then I went to the Fosis induction on the 29th which was interesting but it also made me realise that we have a lot of work to do with faith organisations. This needs to be a two way process as well we need to learn acceptance of faith just as people of faith need to accept us. I’m sure that in time we’ll get there. After that I went up to my home town of Scarborough for those of you that know me you will know that for 2 years everyone thought my last name was ‘from Scarborough’ which frankly was better than my old surname ‘Bosomworth’. An interesting name for a lesbian I know but there you go.
I went up to march at the G8 protest on the 2nd July and I was utterly amazed by the enthusiasm of everyone there. My best moment of being in Scotland was the silence, four of us sat down and held hands, and as hippie as it was it really brought home why we were there. On the way up I might add that we did an NUS L word chart which proved highly amusing and will remain highly confidential!
Over the past few weeks I have been working with Diva on a student edition which will be out next month so please look out for that. It was very interesting being involved in the articles if not extremely stressful. I do think what Diva does a lot for our community so it was worth it and hopefully they will be involved more in our campaign so we can bridge the gap between the student movement and the outside world.
I went to the emergency NEC on July 6th and thankfully didn’t stay in London that night. I also went to the NEC on the 11th. The day after the NEC I was in the office searching frantically for 8 London based student LBT Women which, let me tell you, is incredibly difficult out of term time!
On Friday 15th I went to Jenny Willmotts leaving do. For those of you who don’t know, Jenny worked with the Liberation unit last year and has been in NUS for 5 years. She will be missed loads and in true NUS style we all got slightly intoxicated to mark the occasion.
