1 week to Annual Conference and the stress levels are rising!
NASUWT Conference, in Brighton. This was a really interesting 2 days. Their conference is very political but very unfactional, in comparison to the experience I’d had at NUT conference the previous weekend. Interestingly the NASUWT has now taken over from the NUT as the biggest teaching union in the country. Also bumped into an old teacher which was a surprise. However, the conference followed the same old rules of being predominately male and predominately over 50.
Spent an afternoon property hunting with the interim ND and our PA. We saw 4 properties in London and all agreed that the final one was the best option although it will mean a cultural shift as we move to open plan working. We have made an offer and are waiting to see.
Strategic Management Team meeting
joint Negotiation Committee
Open University Students Association Conference, where I gave a keynote speech. We’re looking to buddy up with the OU in terms of representative, discount cards but also in terms of our campaigns. We’re currently setting up a joint series of meetings with key figures in the DFES over part-time student issues.
Drove from the OU in Eastbourne, to Blackpool via a couple of de-tours. Felt instantly unwell the moment I hit the M55.
