After numerous technical difficulties I had a phone conference with the 2 LGB Officers and Keith Underhill over a constitutional ruling as to the name of the LGB (T) campaign, The question in case over whether a ‘T’ should be added to the internal name of the campaign, and where it contradicts our National Constitution. I’m yet to actually make the ruling as I’m still waiting for the standing orders for the campaign, however as soon as I’m supplied with them I’ll post it up here.
NEC meeting. This was due to discuss the estimates. Unfortunately it was inquorate, another example of the priorities of the NEC. Looks like the deficit situation will have to be resolved by Conference!
Last minute visit up to the East Midlands, popped into Luftborough.
Debate at Cardiff as to why they shouldn’t leave the National Union. It was a really sparky debate and I enjoyed it far more than any others I’ve done this year. I’m pleased that after a hard campaign students voted ‘No to disaffiliation’ by almost 80%. What’s important now is that we meet with the Cardiff sabbatical team to build a strong working relationship for the future.
Attended and gave a key note speech at the AOC Annual Governors Convention in Ashbridge. Too often we hear the same excuses from governing bodies as to why they have no student representation, so a chance to challenge them was very useful.
My favourite day of the year – Compositing. This is where students and student officers come together from across the country to literally cut and stick the motions document for National Conference into a more workable document. It’s old fashioned, it’s often aggressive and it’s farcical. I’m desperately trying to think of an alternative and always up for suggestions.
Finished compositing and headed to Coventry for National Women’s Campaign Conference
