| 25th – 31st October- Meeting with the association of Colleges (AOC) to discuss a communications strategy, and hopefully finding some FE students who can act as advocates for the FE sector as a whole.
- Meeting with Brendan Barber General Secretary of the TUC discussed our campaign priorities and general initiatives around students as workers.
- Spoke at London Met’s first SU Council of the year.
- The 26th was deadline day for extra-ordinary conference if it was to be on the 8th. We had significantly more than 25 requests from student unions to call the conference, which must be a huge relief to all those who intend to move the organisation forward. Thankyou to all those who called.
- Spoke at Kings College London’s first Council meeting of the year.
- Attended Oxford Brookes AGM, which incidentally was absolutely freezing. Also managed to pop briefly into the environmental conference, which was being held in the same venue. Well done to hulio (Julian) and Mitch for such a well-attended and enjoyed event.
- Visits to Keele, update on state of the union stuff.
- Round table between VP Welfare, VP Education, National Secretary, National Treasurer and myself re staffing and resources.
- NUS NEC delegation mtg. for extraordinary Conference. Supposed to begin at 10amQuoracy of 14 wasn’t reached until well after 11. Leading to rushed debate. Time after time NEC meetings start late, because people consistently fail to turn up on time. Anyhow we passed a motion on zoning, which aims to allow more unions and less NEC members or hacks to control what is debated on conference floor by removing the risk of losing your motions at priority ballot. You really need to be thinking now about what you want to be debated at next year’s national conference and be writing it now.
- Mtg. with a member of steering cttee
- Speaking to the National Pensioners Convention Conference
