December:
December 1st – EDINBURGH REFERENDUM. I flew to Edinburgh on Tuesday night. As soon as I reached the university I met with the team and had a bunch of flyers thrust into my hand. We work til about 8pm talking to people about voting to join NUS. Edinburgh Uni have not been part of NUS for over 20 years, so it was hard work getting people out to vote. However, with a 5am start the next morning, putting up posters and flyering halls and bars we managed to WIN the referendum and Edinburgh University is now part of NUS.
December 2nd – The National Demonstration –CARDIFF- This year was different to all the others. The NEC voted to join its brothers and sisters across the UK and hold its National Demo against tuition fees in Wales. This was such a brilliant day, it made a difference not being in London. The demo had a real impact in Cardiff and a good time was had by all.
Environmental Committee – Having elected our Environmental Committee in October, we arranged our first committee meeting at Birmingham University Guild. You can find out what we agreed and what the campaign will do for you this year by clicking here.
