NUS Women's Committee have set the priority campaigns for 2005-2006
Just a quick blog to let you know that NUS Women's Committee have set the priority campaigns for 2005-2006. We had to interupt our planning session yesterday, following the first Women's Committee meeting of the year on Wednesday, due to the attempted bombings in London so that everybody could make their way back to London, but I can let you know the subject areas and I'll blog the specific details once we've reconvened to look at how we'll dleiver them.
Women's Conference mandated us to have a priority campaign on Equal Pay, but Committee decided to expand this to include women's rights at work so we will run a two-part campaign, looking at the gender pay gap and campaigning for equal pay in addition to a campaign encouraging women students who work to join a trade union.
The second priority campaign will be Pro-Choice and Proud of it... Yes, we are re-running last year's controversial but extremely successful and popular campaign as the issues surrounding a woman's right to choose have not gone away.
As I said, I'll give you more details once we've got them, but I hope that next year women students can get involved in two political and relevant campaigns that will make a huge difference to their individual lives and women's rights in general.
If you're a women's officer or activist, get in touch if you have got any ideas about the things you would like these two campaigns to deliver
