London Pride

London pride, people marching with Brunel University banner

One of my first days as LGBT Officer was set out for attending London Pride which fell the same day as the G8 summit and I thought it important that we still had a presence at it even though it would be certainly reduced.

As I had been in Edinburgh the Weekend before for Scotia Pride, supporting NUS Scotlands LGBT Campaign, I took the decision to not go up to the G8 but instead attend London Pride. This proved to be a really positive experience I managed to talk to many Trade Unions and march in the Youth section, developing our links for Europride 2006, which will be taking place in London next year, as well as raising our profile with our trade Union allies.

There was a brilliant turn out of Young LGBT People and Students to this London Pride, however I start my picture blog off with a reminder as to why it’s so important we do not allow bigots attack (either physically, mentally, or emotionally) anyone in our community, but especially the young. Lets not forgot the Church still runs a fair proportion of Schools in the UK, and in these times where it appears the right-wing Christian church is reclaiming previously won ground of the of the liberal church movement this can only be a worry.

All in all the day was a very positive experience.
