February began with the joy of Regional Conferences. This involves a hellish 5 day trek around the country, living out of a suitcase and driving 3 or 4 hours every night to get to the next town. Fortunately, these also involve the NEC getting to know each other a bit better and having quite a jolly time. I can only apologies to Gareth and Mitchell for the forced singing of Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat which took place in my car! The regionals I went to (on the west side of the country) went really well, and it was a good chance for NEC and CMs to mix and for us to be held accountable. I’m not sure how exciting my Co-Op Housing presentation was by the time I did it for the 4th time in London, but I hope I got the message across anyway!
On 14th Feb I went over to Belfast to help NUS USI with their SHAG Campaign, and spent a lovely day driving round all the unions distributing SHAG packs. Many thanks to Damien for taking me round, despite my stinking cold and general grumpiness. We also had a wonderful time after the diesel ran put and we had to coast along to the petrol station! Fortunately it was mostly down hill! It was really good to meet so many of the N Ireland officers, as we don’t always have as much contact as we should do.
