The government are about to put out a consultation on student support in Scotland. We are currently putting into action our plans to get a firm policy on fairer funding for students in Scotland. Over the next couple of Months NUS Scotland are going to hosting a series of three public debates. The events will take place in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The three debates will bring our members face to face with those that have the ability to change and influence. The idea is to bring students from all backgrounds together, to debate directly with the sector on how to increase funding for education in Scotland in a way which is fairer. Other debates will look at the issues of widening access and student hardship v student debt. One of the debates will look at the ways in which Scottish institutions are funded and how we remain internationally competitive.
Over the next few months NUS Scotland will be doing extensive consultations, both with the sector and with our members, to insure the most reflective and appropriate submission is made to the government’s consultation. The write up of the debates will inform our policy, to be taken to our annual conference in Scotland this coming March.
Further details will be available on the exact date and location of the debates. So watch this space!
