Monday 5th December I had a day in the Office, we had a management team meeting, I went to see the presentation on Co-operative Housing Project, well done to Veronica for getting this moving again.
Tuesday 6th I met with Ben Ward, Chair of National Council and the National Director to receive the MORI report and decide a way forward for this work.
IN case you weren’t aware, In 2004 NUS commissioned MORI to conduct some stakeholder research to help us in our period of review, reform and reorganisation. NUS National Council formed a Year of Change steering group to commission the research, help formulate its remit and then receive the report and use it to progress democratic reform and influence the 5 year Strategic plan of NUS.
The report is available for download here: Mori Report
Please do take the time to read it and consider the recommendations and key findings with your executive committees.
The way forward for this research’s implementation from now:
- New Year of Change group selected from National Council November 2005
- First meeting with Year of Change group and NEC Strategy Team to receive the report and start formulating options for change. Start influencing the direction of the strategic plan for NUS
- Options for change circulated to CM’s before the amendments deadline, giving Students’ Unions chance to influence any possible change to NUS structures.
- Strategic plan for NUS ready in time for Annual Conference.
On Wednesday I went to Newcastle to talk to Part time officers about NUS during their induction and on Thursday I went to the newly formed east anglia region ANGUS Conference. The convenors and the exec were elected, well done to all!
Friday 9th I had an Area Convenors meeting. I am so pleased we now have three functioning areas and rumours of more on the horizon.
