12th December was Democracy Day in Manchester as part of the Priority Campaign, it was a really successful day with 45 delegates from FE, HE and some from the special nations. The democracy toolkit was launched which you can find online at http://www.officeronline.co.uk/campaignsupport/participate/democracytoolkit/271774.aspx covering a range of issues from increasing participation in your elections to running successful meetings to encouraging students to stand in your elections. It is really useful both for FE and HE so take a look when planning your elections for next year.
Tuesday 13th I met with the National Director about the Strategic plan and the implementation of the MORI report.
Wednesday and Thursday were NEC meetings, one about management and organisational reports and discussions, one about motions. The second one had a distinctly festive feel with secret santa gifts, wine and mince pies and some good policy debates!!
On Wednesday evening I went to UBU council to talk about NUS reform and extra, I got a definite grilling but on the whole I think that people felt we are making progress as an organisation.
Thursday night was the NUS xmas party and it was a drunken affair, we had a great rendition of the Macarena from Veronica, Wes and Stephen (photo below!)

Friday I went to an Aldwych meeting in Cardiff to present MORI and got asked a lot of questions about the Extra Project. Thank you for the invite, it was great to be able to discuss the MORI findings with as wide an audience as possible and I think on the whole, both in NEC and to UBU and Aldwych it has gone down extremely well, we just need to deliver on it now…that’s the hard bit!
