NUT Blog
14/02/2005

I have met on a number of occasions with Ian Garner from Reading and Wes Streeting from Cambridge to address the issue of teacher trainers. With the Government currently looking at charging Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) students we must be ready for the fight. While charging top-up fees is wrong for all students I believe it is particularly the case for those training to be teachers. Students entering PGCE’s already have the debt acquired from their first degrees and if they were charged top-up fees rather than the current situation where they receive a £6000 grant many of them will be put into financial turmoil, while others may choose not to enter the teaching profession at all.

In March I shall be attending an NUT weekend for those training to be teachers, while I am also planning to attend NUT Conference.
