I went to sleep the other night and dreamt that I was walking around in Manchester having lots of fun with my friends and having no issues or aggression around my sexuality. No rude names or words slung at me, no stories about violence made against my friends just because they were holding there girlfriends hand or kissing their boyfriend public. When I woke up I realised that for one weekend this was not a dream but reality.
August bank holiday weekend was the weekend for Manchester pride. It was colourful and loud were anything goes and it doesn’t matter who you are or were you come from it doesn’t matter about your politics or your religion and best of all it doesn’t matter about your sexuality, you can express yourself in ways that for the other 51 weeks of the year the general public sees as abnormal. And it felt fantastic.
Most of the weekend was taken up by the Pride March and running of the NUS Stall in the Life Style Expo, but I did get a chance to see Hazel Dean! For any of you who are now saying who? Get out more!
It has to be said that I would like to give a huge thank you to James Piper, Hayley Mills, Graham Rimmer and Noamh Mckee for all of there hard work to organise NUS’s attendance at this years Manchester Pride. Once again showing that the North West do it in style!!!
In adition to Manchester pride I also helped out at the Active Political Leadership NUS training for Presidents. It was great fun especially the role plays during ‘The University of Fibchester!’ for all of you that were there here are a few pictures of the event that I thought that you might like to see!
