I must start my blog this time around by apologising for not writing a blog in a while and for not having the one I wrote in September posted, but it is quite hectic trying to study full time and work on the block of 12 when you live in Preston and there for have to travel for 4 hours to get to London.
An example of this would have been last Wednesday when I left hone at 7.30am to be in London for 12 o’clock for the MAKE POVETY HISTORY demonstration against Climate Change. The demo was fantastic and it was great to see so many people still enthused by the issue post July and it now in many peoples eyes not such a hot topic, once again I think that we have proved those people wrong, and especially in regards to young people. THEY DO CARE!!!! But saying this and following on fro my rant along the lines of if I spend much more time on trains Richard Branson will start charging me rent, I had to leave London at 2pm in order to be backing Preston for a lecture at 6pm. So for all of you there who I did not get chance to see please do not thin k I had the usual NEC stick up my proverbial ass, I was just trying not to fail my degree!!!!!!
Also this month I have given a couple of speeches on different issues. The first was outside 10 Downing Street on the final day of the Labour Party Conference. The event although planned at the last minute was well attended and there were even plenty of calls of the words nonsense, luckily we didn’t get arrested for saying that incredibly illegal word. The meeting went well and I have included a copy of my speech in my blogs if any one is interested.
The second speech I made was a pleasure to do, it was in Blackpool to their Youth Council and the topic was Youth Matters. It is really encouraging to see so many people engaging into youth politics in this manner and in the way that they professionally run there council. Again a copy of my speech is posted.
The big thing this month for me is the campaign against climate change. There are several events going on for this. The first will be a day of action held across campus’s which will be on the 17th November and the lead event is going on at Cambridge SU so a big thank you to CUSU. The other event is of course the Demo in London which will take place the Day after the E&E Conference on the 3rd December. So all of you that are attending the Conference please check officer online for some information about cheap accommodation in London to stay over for the Demo.
Regional Conferences are over and I would like to say a big hello to all of you lovely people that I saw, I missed 2 of the conferences unfortunately due to having to attend lectures in Preston, so if during report and plan sections anyone had questions on the E&E campaign please give me a call or drop me an email.
