Raising the bar for non-alcoholic spaces in students’ unions
21/11/2007

A friend, with no religious faith recently said to me: “Why do many people associate not drinking alcohol with religion? I don’t drink and don’t like socialising in an alcoholic environment!”

Many students today don’t drink, for a number of reasons, religion is just one of them. In many students’ unions, however, the only socialising space is based around alcohol.

Universities want to increase international student entries but don’t wish to give their students’ union more space to increase space coffee houses or juice bars. This is what I was told during my term as president at my union. If you know any different then let me know.

  • If your union is campaigning for non-alcohol-based social space then drop me an email for more information.
